Freight Forwarding · Severna Park, MD · Since 2007

The cheapest quote
is rarely the whole price.

Global Transnet Corp arranges international freight from Severna Park, Maryland. Most shipping disputes are not about rates. They are about which party was supposed to pay for something, and which party was carrying the risk when it went wrong — and both of those are settled by three letters in your contract.

Common trade terms, and who carries the load

Simplified. The contract and the current rules always govern

EXW
Ex Works
Collected at the seller's premises
Buyer carries most
FOB
Free On Board
Risk passes once goods are on the vessel
Buyer from loading
CIF
Cost, Insurance & Freight
Seller pays freight and insurance to the port
Seller pays more
DAP
Delivered At Place
Seller delivers to the named place, unloaded by buyer
Seller carries far
DDP
Delivered Duty Paid
Seller bears duties and clearance too
Seller carries most
Under CIF the seller buys insurance — but often only minimum cover. Paid for is not the same as adequately covered.

Who we are

Moving other people's
cargo since 2007

Global Transnet Corp arranges international freight and logistics from Severna Park, in Anne Arundel County, and has done since 2007. We are a small operation working between shippers and carriers — which is exactly what a forwarder is.

The work is coordination rather than haulage. We do not own the ships or the aircraft. We book the space, assemble the documentation, keep the customs broker supplied with what they need, and tell you the truth about the timeline rather than the version that wins the quote.

The part clients underestimate is documentation. A container can sit at a port accruing charges because one certificate was wrong, and demurrage does not care whose fault it was. Most of what we actually do is making sure that does not happen.

Freight is a paperwork business that happens to involve ships.

Services

Coordination, end to end

A forwarder's value is in the joins — between carrier, broker, warehouse and the person waiting for the goods.

Ocean Freight

Full container and consolidated shipments, booked with carriers on the routes that actually suit your cargo rather than the ones with the cheapest headline rate.

Air Freight

For cargo where time genuinely outweighs cost — with an honest comparison of what the difference is actually buying you.

Documentation

Bills of lading, packing lists, certificates of origin and commercial invoices — assembled correctly the first time, which is where delays are avoided.

Customs Coordination

Working alongside your licensed customs broker so entries are filed with complete information rather than corrected afterwards.

Consolidation & Warehousing

Grouping smaller consignments and arranging storage where holding cargo briefly costs less than moving it badly.

Inland Transport

Drayage from the Port of Baltimore and onward road movement, arranged so the container is collected before free time expires.

Who bears what

Four costs that surprise
first-time importers

None of these appear in a freight quote, and all of them appear on a final invoice. Every one is avoidable or at least predictable if it is raised before the cargo moves rather than after it has arrived.

Demurrage and detention

Containers come with a limited number of free days at the terminal and off it. Miss them and charges accrue daily, quickly exceeding the freight itself. Arrange collection before the vessel arrives, not after you receive the arrival notice.

Duties, taxes and fees

Duty depends on classification and origin, and it is the importer of record who owes it. A quote for freight is not a quote for landed cost. Ask what your goods classify as before you commit to a price with your customer.

Carrier liability is not insurance

A carrier's liability for lost or damaged cargo is limited by international convention, often to an amount far below what the goods are worth. If the value matters to you, arrange cargo insurance separately and check what it actually covers.

Documents decide the timeline

A missing certificate, a mismatched weight or a description that does not match the invoice can hold cargo at a port for days while charges run. The documentation is not administrative overhead; it is the schedule.

The single most useful question before you agree a price: which trade term applies, and therefore who pays for each leg and who bears the risk at each point. Agree it explicitly and put it in the contract. A dispute six weeks later about who was supposed to insure a container is not a dispute anybody wins.

How it works

Five stages, one shipment

1

The Cargo

What is moving, from where to where, and by when it must arrive.

2

Terms & Quote

Trade term agreed, and what is and is not included stated in writing.

3

Booking

Space secured and the documentation pack started before the cut-off.

4

In Transit

Tracking, and early warning when a schedule slips rather than after.

5

Arrival

Clearance coordinated and collection arranged inside the free time.

Our first import, we had agreed a price with our customer without knowing what duty applied. That was explained to us before booking rather than after arrival, and it changed the price we quoted. It would have wiped out the margin entirely.

A cheaper forwarder quoted us less and left the inland leg out of the number. Here the quote said plainly what was not included, which made it look more expensive and turned out to be the same. I would rather compare honest numbers.

We were told our cargo insurance under the seller's terms was minimum cover and nowhere near the value of the goods. Nobody had ever mentioned that distinction to us. We bought proper cover and have done ever since.
